Preparations are under way for the 2014 New York Boat Show, which opens next week.

2014 New York Boat Show2Hundreds of boats lined the West Side Highway before cruising into the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

“Well this is the set up of the show, day one. This is when a lot of the big boats come in,” show manager John Pritko told Haskell. “There’s specialty equipment. We use special marine hoists and special marine forks and we have other various forks.”

2014 New York Boat Show5The cavernous convention center will be transformed over the next few days as more boats dock inside before the show opens on Wednesday.

“So we make it all pretty, put the carpet down and get the signs up and get all the boats in and the exhibitors do the beautiful displays,” said Pritko. “It’s cool to see kids and families enjoying the show.”

2014 New York Boat Show6The show features about 300 boats ranging from kayaks to yachts and is expected to draw 40,000 visitors.

The 2014 Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show runs from Jan. 1 to Jan. 5.
