 Born in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn on July 28, 1924, he is the author of Harry Belafonte’s “Day-o,” the first Calypso song to sell over one million copies. 

Father of Calypso, he has written countless other Calypso tunes, including the National Anthem of Barbados.

Irving Burgie is also an inductee of the Song Writers Hall of Fame and longtime member of the Harlem Writers Guild.
