A few days ago we posted that Harlem artist Azealia Banks was not showing up for her concerts in Norway, now she is a free agent.
Vibe.com reported that today she enthusiastically announced on Twitter that she had been released from her Universal Music deal (July 10).
The fiery rapper signed on in 2012 and was readying her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste. While dropping buzz singles like “Yung Rapunxel” and “ATM Jam,” Banks also managed to pick fights and bash many a-celeb on her timeline along the way (cc: Angel Haze and Pharrell).
Earlier in the year, she went public about her unhappiness with her label. “I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal,” she tweeted. “I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. They don’t even know what they’re listening for or to. I’m really in hell here.”
But the show will go on. Last month, Banks teased photos from her “Wallace” video.
We wonder if the Norway no shows are connected to unhappiness with the label?
