Michaels’ World: Infiniti G37 Sedan

By Michael Andre Adams

I’ll say it again and again: Infiniti has got to be perhaps the greatest value in the luxury class of mass marketed cars that I know of! In every Infiniti vehicle I’ve tested, style, performance and quality have always ruled!

Take for example, my recent test in the G37 Sedan Journey. It’s powerful 328 horsepower 3.7 liter V6 engine produces 269 lb-ft of torque. Solid, but lightweight in design, coupled with a 7-speed transmission, it scores an EPA rating of 19 miles per gallon in the city / 27-highway, which @ 15,000 miles driven annually, that’s just $1,911 in annual fuel costs for a hot luxury car that performs!

Behind the wheel of the G37, I felt a sense of vigor and excitement. Recounting the reasons I recall first and foremost the seating configuration whereby things seemed ergonomically correct and within easy reach. Infinit’s WSYWIG (what you see is what you get) controls makes it all brainless, unlike some lux-cars whereby one button does five things, all of which takes some time to become acquainted. And the seats–with bolsters and thigh extensions, kept me harnessed and nestled in total comfort.

In terms of handling, features such as independent front and rear suspension, stabilizer bars (front and rear), dual flow path shock absorbers and speed sensitive power steering gives this car the grace it needs to coincide gracefully with the powertrain mentioned above.

At night, the 18″ rims, unique sport xenon headlights, LED tailights, unique side sills displaying “Infiniti” in lights (all part of the $2,100 Sport Package), along with the $560 rear deck lid spoiler–set this one off, leaving others to take note at every traffic light.

Also worthy of mention are 3-D building graphics and Birdview, which provides a bird’s eye view in the 7″ touch screen color display with DVD playback, from which the hard drive navigation functions are displayed. In this package (Navigation at $1,850) also comes streaming audio via Bluetooth, voice recognition, XM satellite radio with XM NavTraffic and XM NavWeather, Zagat Survey, restaurant views, a 9.3 GB music box and more. Lane guidance and speed limit advisory are also included in this package.

The only thing I missed in the model tested were cooled seats and rain sensor windshield wipers.

Base price of the G37 Sedan Journey is $34,450. The model tested (as shown) including the extras mentioned above, plus a couple other packages, totals $42,345.
