Qoute of The Day: “I’ll Still Go in Wal-Mart And Come Out And N—-s Will Still Think Its Versace.”

July 11, 2014

070914-music-jim-jonesHarlem’s Jim Jones made our Qoute Of The Day post in an article by BET.com where they reported just seven years ago, in 2007, the leaders of Dipset and G-Unit, two of the biggest crews in hip hop, were at war.

The division of boroughs — Queens and Manhattan — infused with a combination of egos and one epic debate, led to one of the biggest rap crew beefs of the last decade, forcing New Yorkers to choose sides between The Diplomats and G-Unit.

Fast forward to 2014, G-Unit has reunited and Jim Jones has moved on. “Ain’t no tensions,” Jones told XXL of his relationship with The Unit. “Nah, it’s a good time to jump back in the game. They got a lot of momentum … There are a lot of things that occurred in these past few weeks that kinda gave them a comeback. Shout out to the G-Unit.”

But G-Unit wasn’t the only rap crew Jones commented on. The “We Fly High” rapper also touched on fellow Harlem emcees A$AP Mob, breaking down the difference between them and the Diplomats.

We got bona fide swag and the definition of ‘get fly,’ ya dig?

“They weren’t from the street,” Jim Jones said. “They’re a good group of kids and they’re artistic, but they’re not from the street and their style is way different than what we do. It’s a little bit far out there for me. We got bona fide swag and the definition of ‘get fly,’ ya dig?”

The genuine swag Jimmy spoke of could be attributed to Cam’ron, aka The Pink Panther, making pink an acceptable color for rap gods, the crew’s infamous bejeweled belts and let’s not forget Juelz’s bandana fetish. But according to Jimmy, A$AP’s style cannot compare.

I’ll still go in Wal-Mart and come out and n—-s will still think its Versace.

“I’m not trying to disrespect them — A$AP Mob is doing it, they got their numbers and they’re doing what they like to do — but they’re nothing like the Diplomats,” he said. “We don’t wear kilts and we don’t wear tight sweatpants and funny sneakers,” Jimmy explained. “That’s not our style. Price point and high fashion don’t really make it cool. I’ll still go in Wal-Mart and come out and n—-s will still think its Versace.”

Jimmy and the Diplomats reunited in March 2013 for the 10-year anniversary of Diplomatic Immunity, but the world could use another fashion flashback from the ‘set (source).
