Today’s Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run and NYC Walk to Salute the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act celebrated many things.

seitu 2 runAs part of Harlem Week, a month of festivities and cultural events, it paid tribute to Harlem’s unique place in history and in NYC today.

The 5K honored Percy Sutton (1920–2009), the Manhattan Borough President in the 1960s and ’70s who championed the New York City Marathon as a “people’s event” through the five boroughs.
