March 5, 2011

Senator Chuck Allen III Scholarship Fund is now receiving applications for the 2011 Scholarship Fund season. Minority students are encouraged to apply. The Fund is seeking motivated high school seniors who exhibit leadership and are involved in the betterment of the community. Students must plan on attending college and pursue their education in any of the following courses of study: Accounting, Law, Political Science, Urban Studies, Public Policy or Public Administration. This memorial scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of the civic service and community activism of the late Connecticut state Senator Chuck Allen, III. Allen served for 26 years in New Haven, Connecticut local and state politics and later lived in New York City.

Senator Chuck Allen III was a pillar of the black community and it is through his philanthropy that minority students are now able to benefit their future commitment to education and civic pride. The SCAII Scholarship Fund is a tri-state scholarship (NY, NJ, and CT). Students are required to submit with their application three letters of recommendation, high school transcript and will have to complete a one thousand-word essay. One student from each state will be chosen to receive a $500 nonrenewable award which will be distributed in July 2011.

The award ceremony will take place at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church on June 12, 2011. Local politicians and civic leaders will be present to award winning recipients. The application deadline is April 30, 2011 and so we encourage the best and brightest high school seniors to apply! SPOILER ALERT: Education empowers you to manifest what you are.

You are trained when you manifest what somebody else wants you to be. Make education your number one priority.
